Collective Dominance in Competition Law

So the people at Virtual Lawyer (Check them out on Instagram and Facebook) recently got in touch to deliver an online talk on a topic of my choosing, and I was more than happy to grab the opportunity to verbally regurgitate on an issue which doesn’t get its due attention, yet which is slowly gaining relevance as the competition climate in our economy changes – Collective Dominance in Competition Law.

My apprehension of it being too niche topic was fortunately belied, as the ‘Question and Answer’ session refused to end and we had to start a fresh meeting to try to go through them all. 🙂 🙂

C.C.I.’s 1st National Conference on the Economics of Competition Law, 2016

The Competition Commission of India (C.C.I.) is organising a two-day national conference on the ‘Economics of Competition Law’ on 3-4 March 2016 in New Delhi.

Important Dates and Deadlines

1. Submission of abstracts:- 5 October 2015; 2300 hrs IST

2. Intimation regarding selection of abstracts:- 10 November 2015

3. Registration of speakers:- 30 November 2015

4. Submission of final papers to the C.C.I.:- 31 January 2016

5. Conference Dates:- 3-4 March 2016

I.C.N. Merger Workshop to go Online !!

In an excellent initiative by the C.C.I. (especially for the “aam aadmi” bourgeoisie like us who can’t get in !!), the Commission will be broadcasting the sessions of the I.C.N. Merger Workshop, 2014, which starts from tomorrow, on an Official Youtube Channel created exclusively for the Conference.

It is still not entirely clear whether the entire event will be broadcast live or only the relevant speeches by the speakers, but either way, it a great way to finally get a chance to listen in on the conference.

Merger Workshop will be hosted by the Competition Commission of India (C.C.I.) under the auspices of the I.C.N., and is a continuation of the series of agency-led conferences that began in 2002. During the two-day Workshop, discussions will focus on the role of international cooperation in merger enforcement. The workshop will take stock of the extant mechanism for international cooperation between competition agencies in merger enforcement and focus on building an effective framework for international cooperation in the areas of merger remedies, and outreach initiatives in the context of merger control.”

Antitrust Programme for Young Professionals 2014

The Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (I.I.C.A.), in partnership with the Competition Commission of India (C.C.I.), is pleased to invite applicants for the 2014 first edition of the “Antitrust Programme for Young Professionals 2014”. This Programme is a five-day signature practice oriented workshop and envisaged to be an annual event. It brings together a selected gathering of young lawyers, professionals and researchers drawn from prestigious Universities.
The Summer School provides the unique opportunity for professionals to interact with globally reputed faculty and experts from competition law (including academics, practitioners, in-house counsels, foreign competition law experts) through a combination of coursework that extensively covers lectures, discussions, skill oriented sessions and innovative learning processes like mock trial session, case studies, quiz, movies and peer-group activities.
